Growing Pains..

Last week I had the opportunity to see one of my dear friends show his artistry on the runway during the Art Institute of Indianapolis's Annual Student Fashion Show. He was so excited to showcase his new women's wear collection as he felt the pieces were some of his BEST. I was excited for him too yet when he came by to drop off my ticket his energy was far from excitement. He was frustrated with treatment from his professors, shade he received from other students and filled with anxiety combined with nervousness. He came to tears as he talked about his passion for fashion and how much he'd put into being a student as well as completing such a milestone as a Bachelors Degree. I didn't know the exact words of comfort but I wanted to reassure him of his GREATNESS. Remind him that he has the practical aspect bc he's assisted me with Fashion Shows and shoots, he's done makeup professionally for clients and fashion weeks. He's also showcased his work before with a small collection for Midwest Fashion Week last year. He was deformity knowledgeable of what goes on behind in front of the scenes. The difference is the pressure. Not from media and potential clients but from the judges who would be deciding his fait. His fair as in the schools's coveted Junior and Scholarships that he wanted to win so bad. Unfortunately do to a model's bra color and some construction issues with one of his garments that dream wouldn't become reality this time. Not to say that his pieces weren't fashion forward or innovative from the draping, pleating and down to the cut of the split. Many winners have sent out not so fabulously finished garments on Prioect Ruwnay but their POV was still loved. This night wasn't about who had the loudest cheers bc he certainly did and not just from me. Everyone in the Front Row loved his work. It was sophisticated and chic. The lesson he had to learn is that in Fashion it's always a matter of opinion. Whether you agree with opinion or POVs you just to hope the right persons opinion of your work is in your favor. I only took a video clip of his work but here are some shots as well as other images of the night.

Weapons of Mass Distraction

Keep weapons of mass distraction on your feet ladies……..

Shoes are beautiful objects. Nice shoes are a piece of art. It feels good to hold them, look at them, and most importantly wear them. When I think about my wardrobe full of shoes, I feel safe and satisfied. I love the feeling of buying new shoes, wearing them and then looking at myself in a mirror. Shoes to me = Self Expression
Shoes are a key piece to an outfit…we need them to support our feet so why not have the hottest pair on.

Its noting like having a great pair shoes that you can wear and get attention, their often great conversational pieces.  Some shoes are to die for and some have that effect of “love at first sight”. When you find a great pair that catches your eye you have to have them. They probably take your breath away and you know when you laid eyes on them, you couldn’t live with out them. You’ll do everything in your power to get them and you will not be satisfied until you have them on your feet, struting around town in them.  When you’re in a club and someone stops you and ask “hey nice shoes, where'd you get them from” you know that you have picked a great shoe. Here a some shoes I think that you and your girlfriends can have a great conversation about….

The Skinny on Skinnies

Whether you think it's a trend or tradition SKINNIES are ABsolutely IN and I don't plan on EVER parting with them....SKINNY LEG pants oh how I LOVE thee LET ME COUNT THE WAYS... 1) They pair great w/every shoe imaginable i.e. boots, booties, sandals, flats, pumps, sling backs, platforms, sneakers etc. 2) For all my faSHOEnistas people can actually SEE your hawt shoe w/these on vs. boot cut or flare leg jeans/pants. 3) They come in stretch so all of US can wear them and they definitely help accentuate the curves. 4) They come in an array of fabrics and styles like jeans, dress pants, metallic, sequence etc so any style you’re comfortable with or looking for you can definitely find. 5) Versatility- I can have on a pair of skinny pants and either wear them to work, casual day, dates, and going out. 6) Skinnies are great but if you feel that they're too fitting and you are conscience about your legs try straight legs because they give a similar affect. 7) Looking chic in a pair of skinny jeans or pants is very simple add a blazer with some nice accessories and a great shoe will certainly get the attention you're looking for. 8) Skinnies go very well w/every style shirt whether it’s an oversized sweater, fitted tee, blouse, tank, or loose shirt etc. 9) They look good w/any type of coat or jacket no matter what the style cropped, waist length, mid thigh, faux fur, leather, tweed, cape, poncho etc. 10) Skinnes help reduce a stumpy shape i.e. they help elongate your silhouette because they are so fitted. So if your goal is to look as SKINNY as possible then you should be wearing your skinnies regularly. Skinnies aren't a trend but rather they are timeless that won’t go out of style so if you haven't tried on a pair yet do so soon. Don't think you won't look right in them without trying on a few pair and if you happen to not like one brand's try another many different designers have various cuts of their clothes. If you're concerned about problem areas i.e. your stomach, thighs, cellulite or butt etc then just pair it with a longer top that is loose fitting. Yours In Fashion DaNisha Greene
